As a
working mum with three children I ran my own business in the
hospitality industry for many years. Once they had grown up
I moved to the NHS as a cardiographer, and then went into
nursing, from which I eventually retired.
My
diagnosis with Addison's Disease came in 1981 following
major surgery and was followed in 1982 with a diagnosis of
hypercalcaemia/hyperparathyroidism. After a serious accident
in 2004, I became a member of ADSHG. Shortly after this, I
began working with the Nursing and Ambulance Liaison Team. I
regularly work towards increasing public awareness as to
‘OUR’ special needs, more recently to both police and fi re
service personnel as well as paramedics. In my area they are
now all being trained as emergency ‘First Responders’.
I
have recently begun organising regular face-to-face
meetings in Norwich, which have been well supported by our
local members.
