Tag was
diagnosed in early 2003 and found the ADSHG very soon after.
This has allowed her to attend all the medical lectures/AGMs
so far and to benefit from what she describes as the
‘invaluable collective wisdom’ of the group.
As a
facilitator and consultant in international development,
Tag’s work takes her all over the world. This has
necessitated refining her Addison’s management skills to
take account of: frequent long-haul airline travel; various
inoculations and anti-malarial medications; ensuring
drinking water supplies in out-of-the-way places; coping
with diarrhoea and vomiting, high/low temperature, humid/dry
conditions, high/low altitudes; and preparing her
international colleagues, wherever she is, for the help she
might need in case of a crisis. That said, the only time she
has been close to a crisis was in an aircraft, at 35,000ft.
Through the confidence gained from the ADSHG, she was able
to deal with it.
Tag’s
main contribution to the group so far has been in helping to
organise meetings and seminars; she has helped with the
catering and bookings. She has also written her personal
story for the website
(My Lazaretta Day). As the newcomer, she very much hopes
she can make a useful contribution on the executive
committee. |
