Deana founded the Addison’s
Disease Self Help Group in 1984, in response to her own
diagnosis in 1983. She produces the group’s newsletter every
two months and still single-handedly types up the copy, does
the photocopying and the enveloping for all 650 copies, in
her home office.
She responds to numerous
enquiries from members of the public who want to find out
more about Addison’s disease, as well as enrolling new
members and keeping track of the ever-growing database of
members.
Deana has two
grown sons and works night shifts at her local supermarket
as a shelf-stacker; a job she has maintained since before
her diagnosis. Her stamina alone is a testament to what can
be achieved by individuals with Addison’s.
