What are RSS Feeds?
Our
RSS1 feed allows you
to see when the we add new content to
www.addisons.org.uk.
In this way your computer automatically informs you when new topics
appear on our homepage,
without you needing to first visiting the website. The
RSS Feed replaces the previous ADSHG Website Email Alert,
which has now been retired from use.
What do I need to receive these
feeds?
In
general, the first thing you need is some form of news
reader. This is a piece of software that checks the feeds
you have subscribed to and lets you read any new articles
that have been added. There are many different versions,
some browsers now support feeds directly, you can use your
browser to access an on-line reader (provided for example by
Google or Yahoo) or you can download a separate application
to your PC. The
BBC website provides details of the various news
readers.
The simplest way is to
install Firefox
2.0.0 (or later) or Internet Explorer 7 (or later) which
both now directly support RSS called "Live
Bookmarks" in Firefox and "Feeds"
in Internet Explorer.
How do I start using feeds?
Just
click on the orange button below or the one on our homepage in one
of these browsers and you will be taken to a special RSS
webpage. Depending on your browser you need to click the
"Subscribe Now" button, "Subscribe to this feed" link to
register it with your browser.
You can then place the feed
on your browser toolbar or in your browser favourites and it
will show the current new content on
