Medical research interests


  • The ADSHG gets regular approaches from researchers seeking assistance in recruiting participants for clinical trials, longitudinal or prospective studies and other forms of medical research.

The ADSHG is able to provide some small grant funding assistance to medical researchers, to support project add-on costs such as laboratory expenses. You can read more about how the ADSHG assists medical research funding here.


The ADSHG has conducted several collaborative surveys of its own members and other support groups, both overseas support groups for people with Addison's and UK support groups for people with other forms of steroid-dependence. These surveys were conducted in 1997, 2003, 2006 and 2013 and addressed diagnosis and emergency experiences, quality of life. You can find published reports about these past member surveys here.


The UK Society for Endocrinology, European Society for Endocrinology and US Endocrine Society all publish research abstracts from their annual conferences as free-to-public resources. You can browse relevant research abstracts on the following websites:

About us

The Addison’s Disease Self-Help Group is the support group for people with Addison’s disease or adrenal insufficiency and their families in the UK and Ireland.The group was formed in 1984 and is a UK registered charity no. 1179825.
