For the 40th Anniversary of the Addison's Disease Self-Help Group we are asking you to celebrate with us!

This May we are asking for anyone affected by Addison's or adrenal insufficiency to volunteer to host an Addison’s Afternoon Tea. The Addison's Afternoon Tea events will be an opportunity to connect and bring people together while raising vital awareness of Addison’s and adrenal insufficiency, no matter where you live in the world!

The Addison’s Afternoon Tea events are to be held in the month of May, all to help celebrate our annual awareness day, Addison's Disease Day on Wednesday 29 May 2024, as well as being part of our 40th Anniversary celebrations. The hosts can decide who they wish to invite and if they would also like to fundraise for the ADSHG at their event.

To help you get started we have created an Addison's Afternoon Tea pack filled with advice on planning your event as well as sharing useful tips for the day. Within our pack, you will also find some FREE printable resources to support your event including printable posters and bunting. So grab a cuppa, have a read and let us know how you get on reading our pack.

Addison's disease and the Addison's Disease Self-Help Group (ADSHG)

Addison’s is a rare endocrine condition where the adrenal glands do not produce enough steroid hormones and can be life-threatening. It affects approximately 1 in 10,000 people, meaning an estimated 300 - 350 new cases are diagnosed each year across the UK, this makes it roughly 300 times rarer than diabetes.

Life-long treatment with replacement steroid hormones is required. Medication is usually taken several times daily at carefully timed intervals and individuals must also know how to administer an emergency hydrocortisone injection to prevent a potentially fatal adrenal crisis.

At the ADSHG, we are here to support the Addison’s and adrenal insufficiency community and their healthcare providers to promote better medical understanding of this rare condition, campaign for and support everyone affected by adrenal failure, and fund vital research.

Do grab a cuppa and have a read about what the condition is, what we do, and how you can support people you know who have the condition if they become unwell.
